Adventure LVI

Notes of Interest: 1. I went out Lee's Large Loop in an attempt to find and follow Joyce's Straightarm. I found some sort of trail, but I don't know if it was Joyce's or just a deer/moose trail. Adventure LV

Date of Adventure: 6 July 2009

Type of Adventure: Hike

Place of Adventure: Pine Hill Park

Length of Adventure, miles: 3

Length of Adventure, hours: 1.25

Companion(s): Colyn

Weather: Perfect! Sunny, temps in 70's, dry trail

Other Adventurers Encountered: One large group of hikers, one large group of trail volunteers

Notes of Interest: 1. Interesting Letter to the Editor in today's Rutland Herald regarding the road maintenance and logging. I haven't noticed any logging or disruption. The road looks better, but the trees certainly don't look destroyed, nor do the trails. 2. There is a new trail map for the park. I like that the new map has mileage, but I'm disappointed that it no longer has the topo markings. 3. Due to limited time we hiked a short loop today: Upper Giorgetti, Trillium, Birches, Vista, Upper Ledges, Salamander, 999, Rocky Pond, Underdog, Pond Rd, Vista, Scramble, Backstairs, Upper Giorgetti. 4. Colyn behaved excellently with the groups of people, and even managed to behave well enough in the face of an off leash dog.

The New Map

Adventure LIV

Type of Adventure: Peddle Commute

Date of Adventure: 5 July 2009

Place of Adventure: Rutland Area

Length of Adventure, miles: 6/6

Length of Adventure, hours: 35 min!!!!/31 min????

Weather: Sunny, windy, no rain, temps in low 60's/sunny, light breeze, no rain, temps in 70's

Companion(s): None

Other Adventurers Encountered: Other cyclists and pedestrians

Notes of Interest: 1. I know for sure I made the morning ride in 35 minutes. I'm very excited about this. I have no idea how I made the afternoon ride in 31 minutes. I usually peddle more slowly on the way home. Either I looked at my clock wrong when I started, I peddled faster than I thought, there's slightly more downhill on the way home than on the way to work, or all of the above. 2. I seriously need a new, more comfortable bike seat. And a new water bottle.

LI

Place of Adventure: Moosalamoo, Silver Lake Trail

Length of Adventure, miles: 4

Length of Adventure, hours: 3.5

Other Adventurers Encountered: Several hikers and dogs at camp/picnic area, but no one else on the actual trail.

Notes of Interest: 1. This trail is extremely rocky, and follows along the very edge of the lake. It would be a great place for a dog to go swimming, although there are some signs asking for dogs to be on leash. 2. We were told there had been a Bald Eagle sighted numerous times this spring. 3. Hiked up along the power lines a short ways and had a beautiful view of Lake Dunmore and the Adirondacks. 4. Apparently the Rattlesnake and Leicester Hollow trails are unhikable right now. Rattlesnake is closed due to nesting Peregrines, and Leicester Hollow is washed out.
