Type of Adventure: Hike
Place of Adventure: Shrewsbury
Length of Adventure, miles: 1
Length of Adventure, hours: 1.5
Weather: Overcast, temps in upper 20s, trail packed and a little icy. The snow is 8-12" deep, but there is a crusty layer on top.
Companions: Colyn
Other Adventurers Encountered: None
Notes: 1. So much for a quiet hike in the woods. Almost as soon as I got there, some equipment fired up and filled the forest with noise. I have no idea what they're doing, or exactly where, but I wish they weren't. 2. I, apparently foolishly, trimmed Colyn's toenails before the hike. They were way too long so I trimmed them as short as I could. This left him without the benefit of traction on the slick snow. It also allowed the nail quicks to get bruised and irritated by the crusty snow. He was bleeding from at least 1 toenail on each foot for most of the hike. I felt bad, and it looked like I was torturing him, but he never noticed until we got back in the car. 3. Colyn is getting old and out of shape. He kept stopping to wait for me to catch up. 4. I decided to follow a stone wall again. I ended up in a spot so steep, slippery, and tree covered that I had to crawl about 6 feet up a hill. 4. I really wanted to get a nice photo of the snow covered landscape, so I finally flopped down on my belly in the snow to a get a boot's eye view. Then I felt like a turtle because I could barely move with my pack weighing me down.
